Cooking Adventure, Christmas 2005

Christmas this year was very simple, yet very enjoyable. David and I didn't exchange gifts this year, as we have the wedding coming up very soon as well as a few other things to purchase.

Our weekend cooking adventures were nothing short of disastorous. I tried to make cinnamon rolls on Christmas eve.... for some reason they never rose, and rolling them into a loaf was more of a sticky situation on the counter tops than a success. I baked them, and baked them, and baked them some more. All the filling came out into the pan and again, they didn't rise in the oven. Needless to say, 2 pans of cinnamon rolls were tossed away. We thought about giving them to a homeless shelter, but thought we insult them.

Next came the chicken and noodles... the noodles were homemade from David and his aunt. I took the yummy smelling noodles out of the oven, and tasted one... that was some odd tasting noodle. Trying to place the taste (as it tasted like something I had smelled recently) I realized that the noodles had ridden the entire 8 hour car drive from Omaha back to Denver next to a slightly leaking can of goof-off. Not only did it leak onto the plastic baggie, but the fums from the goof-off had soaked into the doughy noodles. So, yet another cooking disaster. The ham... we won't go there. All I can say is thank God for friends' houses you can go to on the holidays. From now on... I'm going to let others cook the holiday meals.

Adventure Manhattan

Crazy cab drivers, too many people and lots of personality. New York's Manhattan is definatley an adventure all in itself.

David arrived on Friday, December 2. A co-worker suggested the Hotel Roger Williams on 31st and Madison Avenue. What a great place! Very eclectic and retro-eurpoean. The shower had a funky rain shower head hanging from the ceiling, marble floors and walls with a partial glass wall. Someday we'll build a house with our own steam shower. The people at the front desk... definately a notch above the rest.

Saturday we tasted the streets of New York. We happend upon a Farmer's Market in Union Square. Wish we lived there so we could've bought some goodies to cook with. Chelsea Market, definately worth the experience for the food alone. One of the best ham and grilled chicken sandwiches (awesome bread) and to die for crumble apple cake. The wine shop fantastic! We even squeezed in the Texas-Colorado game at an alumni bar called Proof on 19th and 3rd Avenue.

We then headed to Rockefeller Center to see the 74 ft Christmas tree all lit and full of splendor. Times Square just as crazy as ever. There's even a huge Cup 'o' Noodles board in the middle of the advertisment screens. A little odd, but hey, everyone needs to advertise! David listened to his first Fort Minor album at the Virgin Records store. We ate dinner at a great Italian resturant called Scopia.

It snowed Saturday night, so Sunday was a bit cold. But we bundled up (we had to buy flannel sweatpants to put on under our pants) and headed up to Central Park. Ice skating and horse drawn carriages, leaves changing color and a variety of people walking and enjoying the view. We ate lunch at an Asian bistro... David was craving sushi. Needless to say, about an hour later we were still waiting for a glass of water and our sushi. Never to be surprised when we don't get great service.

Manhattan, we owe our best trip so far to you. Although neither of us would ever choose to live in Manhattan, we definately enjoyed the experience.

Engagement Adventure- November 05, 2005

As we drove home from David's suprise birthday party (we went to Champp's to watch a football game... imagine that) David looked over at me and asked one simple question: "What do you think about marrying me next October?" At first I thought he was joking, but when I looked at his face, he was pretty serious. "Well, what do you think?" I think all I thought was about the huge smile that had just spread across my face. I don't think he probably needed my answer after that. "That sounds great."
